ShornHub (“we”) is the data controller for this site. We collect as little about you as we can, but since you can comment, vote and message us, here is the honest, GDPR-shaped truth. Questions? Email mark+shornhub@ginger.land.
What we collect
- A shepherd ID. A random ID kept in a cookie on your device, plus the daft shepherd name generated from it. It isn't linked to your real identity.
- Your activity. Votes, fleece ratings, favourites and comments — tied to that shepherd ID.
- Things you send us. If you use the Contact or Report forms, we store what you type, including your name and email if you choose to give them.
- Uploads. If you upload a video, we store the file and the details you attach.
- Technical logs. Our hosting providers automatically process data like your IP address and browser to keep the site secure and running.
Why we're allowed to (lawful basis)
- Legitimate interests — running a working site: showing your votes, preventing abuse, keeping the flock in order.
- Consent — anything optional, like giving us your email so we can reply. You can withdraw it any time.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your data. We use a few processors to run the site:
- Supabase — database & file storage.
- Vercel — hosting & delivery.
- YouTube / Google — embedded players and thumbnails; they set their own cookies (see the Cookie Policy).
How long we keep it
Activity and uploads stay until you ask us to remove them or we prune the flock. Contact and report messages are kept only as long as needed to deal with them. Ask us to delete your data and we will.
Your rights
Under UK/EU data protection law you can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, or object to how we use it. Email mark+shornhub@ginger.land and we'll sort it. You can also complain to the UK's ICO (ico.org.uk) — though we'd rather you gave us a chance first.
Children
ShornHub is a comedy site about sheep haircuts and isn't directed at children. The “18+” gate is a joke — the content is wool, not adult material.
Plain-English summary: it's sheep haircuts, we barely track you, we don't sell anything, and you can have your data deleted whenever you like.
